$450m wind farm project in SA begins construction

Nexif Energy has turned the first sod, signalling the beginning of construction on the $450 million Lincoln Gap Wind Farm and battery storage in South Australia.

The 212MW wind farm and 10MW battery storage will be located approximately 15 kilometres west of Port Augusta. Once the project is operational, it will produce enough electricity to power about 155,000 homes in the State as well as help offset over 600,000 tonnes of CO2 annually.

“Nexif Energy are committed to building something which will make a significant contribution to the renewable energy target while helping grid stability and reliability in South Australia and we anticipate the wind farm will operate 25+ years, providing green, clean energy for the state.

“Nexif Energy has worked meticulously to develop a highly productive, innovative and practical renewable power model which will bring about real and sustainable benefits to South Australian communities,” Zeki Akbas of Nexif Energy Australia said.

The Lincoln Gap Wind Farm project will involve the construction of and operation of up to 59 Senvion wind turbines and battery storage. Power from the Lincoln Gap facility will be fed into the national electricity grid through the Electranet transmission network.

Approximately 110 to 130 people will be included in the construction workforce for this project, with more than 50 per cent to be sourced in-state.

The project is expected to be commissioned in late 2018.
