$86m Nambour General Hospital redevelopment set to begin major construction

Queensland’s Nambour General Hospital is getting ready to begin major construction on its $86 million redevelopment project that will expand the hospital’s capacity as well as upgrade existing clinical areas.

The hospital redevelopment is progressing well, according to Minister for Health Steven Miles, with early works underway and service relocations commencing.

The Nambour General Hospital redevelopment will include expanding the Emergency Department to 31 beds and treatment spaces; upgrading the Mental Health Inpatient Unit to 44 beds; and building a new Same Day Rehabilitation Unit with 15 chairs.

Other works will comprise of upgrading, relocating or replacing hospital units including Central Sterilising, Renal, Oncology, Acute and Restorative Care, Surgical Inpatient and Orthopaedic.

“This is a win for the local community and demonstrates our government’s commitment to enhancing frontline services to the region,” Mr Miles said.

The Design Development phase for the redevelopment is close to completion and the project team is currently undertaking the design of the new courtyard which will created utilising consumer input.

“Refreshing of existing wards is also occurring to allow certain services to move to a temporary location and continue providing important health care services to the community during construction.

“The construction program has been designed to ensure that the Nambour General Hospital remains fully operational throughout the construction period,” Mr Miles said.

The Minister added that community feedback is vital to this redevelopment.

“Community members have so far provided valuable information to the design development including contributions toward the layout and design; ensuring patients, families and visitors can easily find their way,” Mr Miles said.

The Nambour General Hospital redevelopment is due for completion by the end of 2022.
