The Acciona Clough Joint Venture (ACJV) will continue delivering works at Rio Tinto’s Koodaideri iron ore project in the Pilbara region of Western Australia with the award of a new construction contract from Main Roads WA.
“We are extremely pleased to be awarded this project. Our history with main Roads started in 1957 and we are proud to continue being part of the ongoing development of WA’s transport infrastructure,” Clough CEO and Managing Director Peter Bennett said.
The joint venture will be delivering the Great Northern Highway road over rail bridge and access road intersection towards the Koodaideri mine. Scope of works will include the construction of a 3.6-kilometre road approach towards the bridge over rail as well as a bridge over rail, and side road upgrades to the Great Northern Highway and Koodaideri Mine Access Road (KMAR) intersection.
Earlier this year, the Acciona Clough Joint Venture was also awarded the contract to deliver civil works at the Koodaideri Project’s northern rail formation. You can read more about it here.
The Koodaideri Project is located approximately 110 kilometres from Newman and it is comprised of a processing plant and associated infrastructure, a 166-kilometre rail line that connects the mine to the existing Rio Tinto Pilbara rail network; an airport; support facilities; and an accommodation village for mine workers.
Rio Tinto announced last year that it will invest up to $3.5 billion towards the development of the Koodaideri Project, which is anticipated to support approximately 2,000 jobs during its construction and about 600 more jobs once operational.
The Koodaideri iron ore project is set to become Rio Tinto’s future major mining hub in the Pilbara, with an initial capacity of 43Mtpa.
The Koodaideri Project is expected to begin operations in 2021.
