Adani's $200m solar farm in Whyalla SA nearing construction

Adani Group’s green energy arm Adani Renewables has been granted the final approval for the development of its $200 million solar farm project in South Australia.

The solar farm in Whyalla is projected to generate up to 100MW - with a potential capacity of 140MW - and the project also has the option for an additional battery storage.

According to Adani Renewables Australia chief Jennifer Purdie, the team is in the process of finalising the contracts for energy supply that will underpin the project.

“We recognise the aspirations of South Australians to deliver a reliable energy network through renewables.

“Adani Renewables Australia is eager to provide energy solutions to this ambition by contributing to an energy mix that is reliable, secure and affordable for all customers as we transition to a low emission future,” Ms Purdie said.

This solar farm project is going to be located approximately 10 kilometres north of Whyalla, along the Port Lincoln Highway.

This renewable energy project is also expected to create jobs for the region.

“This is another welcome investment for Whyalla in particular as the investment of near $200 million will create up to 150 construction jobs at the peak of construction and up to five ongoing jobs for the life of the project,” Minister for Trade, Tourism and Investment David Ridgway said.

Construction of the new solar farm in Whyalla is expected to commence this year and be operational in 2019.
