An additional $45 million is being invested by the Australian and Victorian Governments to progress Stage 2 of the Donnybrook Road Upgrade.

The Albanese Government has committed $37.4 million of additional funding while the Allan Government commits $7.7 million.

This critical project is being delivered as part of the jointly funded $1.2 billion Road Blitz that will upgrade roads, reduce congestion and improve safety in Melbourne’s growing suburbs.

“Our new investment of $37.4 million in this year’s Federal Budget will ensure the delivery of Donnybrook Road Stage 2.

“This is an upgrade that the people living in Melbourne’s outer north have called for and deserve,” Federal Minister for Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government Catherine King said.

“These upgrades will ease congestion, improve safety and deliver better connections for the growing communities of Melbourne’s north,” VIC Minister for Transport Infrastructure Gabrielle Williams said.

Stage 1 of the Donnybrook Road Upgrade is currently in the pre-construction phase. This stage of the upgrade will include transforming the roundabout at Donnybrook Road and Mitchell Street into a fully signalised intersection and building a new bridge over Kalkallo Creek.

Meanwhile, Stage 2 will deliver a second bridge over the Hume Freeway and duplicate Donnybrook Road between the Hume Freeway and Dwyer Street to help reduce congestion and improve traffic flow.

Intersection upgrades at the Hume Freeway outbound off-ramp will also be carried out.

“The Albanese Labor Government has been listening and we are investing to ease congestion and take pressure off motorists in this growing part of Melbourne’s north,” Federal Member for Scullin Andrew Giles said.

“Donnybrook Road is a critical local connection and these much-needed upgrades will make a real difference for the thousands of people in our community who use it every day,” Federal Member for McEwan Rob Mitchell said.

Other works will include delivering a new shared walking and cycling path along the northern side of Donnybrook Road between Polaris Road and Dwyer Street.

This project will improve safety on Donnybrook Road and at the Hume Freeway interchange, providing drivers with safer and more reliable journeys in Melbourne’s outer north.

The $170.1 million Donnybrook Road Upgrades build on a pipeline of major road upgrades that are currently underway across the outer north.

“Our continued investment in Melbourne’s north is making travel to work, and the commute home, quicker and safer for local residents,” Federal Member for Calwell Basem Abdo said.

“We are continuing to invest in the roads and infrastructure needed to support Melbourne’s fast-growing outer north,” State Member for Kalkallo Ros Spence said.

“These upgrades will help local families spend less time stuck in traffic and make it safer to get around the area,” State Member for Yan Yean Lauren Kathage said.
