Following the announcement of preferred contractors to deliver the $5.4 billion Cross River Rail project in Queensland, the contract for the Rail, Integration and Systems (RIS) package of works has been officially awarded to the UNITY Alliance.

UNITY Alliance is comprised of CIMIC Group companies CPB Contractors and UGL, AECOM and Jacobs together with partners HASSEL, RCS Australia, Acmena, Martinus Rail and Wired Overhead Solutions.

“We look forward to working closely with the Cross River Rail Delivery Authority and Queensland Rail to deliver the RIS package safely and efficiently,” CPB Contractors Managing Director Juan Santamaria said.

“We look forward to delivering a fully integrated solution alongside our Alliance partners which will provide benefits across Brisbane and South-East Queensland,” UGL Managing Director Jason Spears said.

The RIS package of works will include the design, supply and installation of a supporting rail system and brownfield works for the integration of Cross River Rail to Queensland Rail’s train network. This package will also deliver upgrades to Exhibition Station, augmentation of Mayne Yard and rail operating systems as well as signalling and telecommunications work across the entire development.

In July of this year, PULSE consortium - comprised of CIMIC Group companies Pacific Partnership, CPB Contractors and UGL with partners DIF, BAM and Ghella - was officially awarded the contract to undertake the Tunnel, Station and Development (TSD) Public Private Partnership. “We're proud to be playing a lead role in two key packages of Queensland's largest public transport project,” CIMIC Group Chief Executive Officer Michael Wright said.

Cross River Rail is the State’s largest infrastructure project to date and it will deliver a new 10.2-kilometre rail line that will connect Dutton Park and Bowen Hills. The project scope will include building a 5.9-kilometre tunnel under the Brisbane River and CBD; four new underground stations at Boggo Road, Woolloongabba, Albert Street and Roma Street; and upgrades to the Dutton Park and Exhibition stations.

This multi-billion dollar project will help relieve bottlenecks by the delivery of a second river crossing which will allow more trains to run more often and provide a turn-up-and-go public transport.

Early works on the Cross River Rail project is currently underway and major construction is due to be completed in 2024.
