Better travels across TAS with $1.1bn investment for road and rail upgrades

The Tasmanian Government will be investing approximately $1.1 billion towards road and rail upgrades across the State that will deliver better and safer road systems for Tasmanians.

The State Government will be committing more funding towards the delivery of road upgrades for the South, North and North West through the 2018-19 Budget.

In a statement from the TAS Minister for Infrastructure Jeremy Rockliff, he said: “Our investments in road infrastructure projects across the state support thousands of jobs and help grow our economy.”

The 2018-19 State Budget will include a $24.1 million investment for road upgrades in the North West and West Coast regions. Projects included in the budget are:

  • Bass Highway west of Wynyard, including rebuilding works through Britton’s Swamp
  • New passing opportunities between Wynyard and Smithton
  • Safety improvements at the access to Boat Harbour Primary School
  • Reconstruction of sections of the Henty Main Road
  • Contribution to the Central Coast Council for cycling connection across the Forth River
  • Construction of an overpass at Leith to improve safety at Bass Highway junctions with Leith Road and Short Street

The State Government is delivering these upgrades to provide Tasmanians with better roads that will save lives, reduce the impact brought by serious crashes on the road as well as increase liveability and productivity to let locals travel more efficiently across the State.
