The first sod has been turned to signal the beginning of construction on a massive land development in the Swan Valley in Western Australia, which will support up to 1,900 direct jobs and deliver 2,600 residential lots near the future METRONET Morley-Ellenbrook Line Whiteman Park Station.

“A great deal of work has gone into its planning and I’m sure many WA families are eagerly awaiting the chance to realise their dreams of home ownership in this area,” Housing Minister Peter Tinley said.

The Brabham Development is being delivered by a joint partnership between the Department of Communities, Peet Limited and Perron Group, and the project is located about 20 kilometres from Perth’s CBD.

The first stage of the development will deliver about 600 lots -  to be released in 2020 - in close proximity to the Whiteman Park Station. Preliminary earthworks on Stage 1 will be commencing this month.

“Brabham will be a major transport-oriented development linking the Swan Valley to Perth and will interface with the Whiteman Park Station to provide commuters with ease of use.

“The community that grows with this new development will reap the benefits of the State Government’s key METRONET vision - a Morley-Ellenbrook Line that will create thousands of jobs and halve journey times for people needing to access the CBD,” Transport Minister Rita Saffioti said.

The Brabham Development is a long-term project that is set to deliver approximately 3,000 homes on 2,600 residential lots. It will also support about 1,900 direct as well as 5,900 indirect jobs.

“Brabham’s ambition is to set a new standard, offering an affordable and quality lifestyle in a master-planned, thriving and connected community that enhances the wellbeing of its residents and adds to the vibrancy of the entire region,” Peet Limited Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Brendan Gore said.

Future planning for surrounding infrastructure is already underway and it will include schools, recreational parks, and a retail precinct. It will also include a diverse range of housing options that include low density house and land, medium density townhouse homes, and high density apartments.

“When complete, the development aims to be a six star world leading green-star community, with the focus on achieving innovative and sustainable solutions for energy, non-drinking water supply and built form design,” Perron Group Managing Director Ross Robertson said.

The Brabham Development supports the METRONET Social and Affordable Housing and Jobs Package and it is anticipated to extend over more than 10 years.
