Brisbane developer pushes forward with $260m Broadway Hotel transformation

Majella Property Development – a Brisbane-based developer – is pushing forward with its plans to transform the historic Broadway Hotel in Woolloongabba, with the development application already submitted to the Brisbane City Council. The $260 million development on the 3,420sqm site will encompass 44 Balaclava Street as well as 85 and 93 Logan Road.

“Broadway will redefine this important precinct in Woolloongabba with heritage values central to the design.

“We are thrilled to be able to bring the Broadway Hotel back to life and develop a vibrant commercial precinct with food and dining central to the experience,” said Majella Group founder Professor Frank Monsour.

The hotel’s surrounding area will also be transformed into a world-class residential and commercial space as well as a food and dining destination.

The development will feature a multi-level residential tower with 262 apartment units comprising of one, two, three and four bedroom configurations. The project will also include a three-level commercial and retail space incorporating the heritage-listed hotel and 40 commercial sites.

379 car parking spaces and 113 bike parks will be provided across the tower’s three basement levels.

“The Broadway residential tower will also incorporate generous rooftop facilities including entertaining and meeting areas, pools and a spa. Residents will have plenty of green space on the podium level and all will have access to some of the most magnificent views of Brisbane.

“We’re pleased to be bringing innovations to the Broadway development including centralised recycling, cutting edge Bloomframe windows and the largest automated car parking system in Australia,” Professor Monsour said.

The development is designed by Elizabeth Anderson of Hayes Anderson Lynch Architects and the design is based on Broadway’s Gothic appeal along with styles from New York and Melbourne.

Construction is expected to begin in late-2017 – depending on approval timing – and be completed in 2019.
