Transport for NSW has identified a preferred option for the Thurgoona Drive Interchange Upgrade in Albury, taking this project another step closer to construction.
After extensive technical investigations, traffic modelling and community consultation, this upgrade option was found to be the one to serve the community well into the future.
The preferred option includes:
This option will provide the strongest long-term network performance as well as the best safety outcomes while, at the same time, address the community’s desire for safe active transport connections across the corridor.
“We heard the community, and the preferred option directly addresses the congestion, safety and active transport issues raised, including for the first time, a safe crossing of the Hume Highway for pedestrians and cyclists at Thurgoona Drive.
“The Thurgoona Drive interchange currently experiences significant congestion during morning and afternoon peak periods. There is also no safe crossing for pedestrians or cyclists at this location, with the nearest crossing about 2.5 kilometres away,” Transport for NSW Executive Director Brendon James said.
Planning works that have been undertaken will help inform any future funding decisions and prioritised against other Transport for NSW projects across the State.
The Thurgoona Drive Interchange Upgrade is in the concept design phase. The community will be invited to have their say once the concept designs are finalised, and the feedback will help inform the project’s environmental assessment.
Transport for NSW will keep the community updated as planning progresses.
