Two CIMIC Group companies will be working together to deliver work for Pembroke Resources at the Olive Downs Coking Coal Project Central Queensland, near Moranbah and Dysart.

Under a $184 million contract, CPB Contractors and Sedgman’s scope of works will include design, procurement, construction as well as commissioning of a Coal Handling and Preparation Plant (CHPP) at the Olive Downs site.

“The Olive Downs Coking Coal Project is an exciting, long term development in the Queensland Bowen Basin and we are pleased to be working closely with Pembroke Resources to deliver value for the project,” Sedgman Managing Director Grant Fraser said.

CPB Contractors managing Director Juan Santamaria added: “The Olive Downs Coking Coal Project will draw on the long experience of CPB Contractors in resource infrastructure and our strong ongoing project involvement in regional Queensland, including more than 15 years working with Sedgman in the Bowen Basin delivering coal handling plants and mine infrastructure.”

In September 2018, Pembroke Resources released the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for the $1 billion Olive Downs Coking Coal Project for public consultation.

The construction of the project is expected to create up to 500 jobs a year. Once the Olive Downs project is up and operational, it is also anticipated to support up to 1,000 jobs and produce approximately 15Mtpa of coal annually.

The entire Olive Downs Coking Coal Project will comprise of:

  • An open-cut metallurgical coal mine

  • A coal handling and preparation plant

  • An 18-kilometre rail spur and on site rail loop

  • Raw water access pipeline that will connect to the Eungella pipeline network

  • Private access roads

  • Electricity transmission line

  • Wastewater and sewage treatment plants

Works on the CHPP is expected to be completed in 2020.
