Construction has begun on the third and final section of the $1.02 billion NorthLink WA between Ellenbrook and Muchea, bringing the project another step closer to reality.
According to Federal Minister for Urban Infrastructure Paul Fletcher, the project will be supporting more than 7,000 direct and indirect jobs. He added that this project is part of the Australian Government’s record $75 billion infrastructure package.
“NorthLink WA Northern Section is the final piece in this vital $1 billion project to improve safety and ease congestion on local roads, while shifting 80 per cent of heavy vehicles from Great Northern Highway onto the new route,” Mr Fletcher said.
Western Australian Minister for Transport Rita Saffioti said that this project contributes to the region’s economy through the delivery of a stronger, more efficient road network between industrial areas.
“NorthLink WA will contribute to potential future employment opportunities by connecting to current and future industrial areas. Importantly, the new road will take heavy traffic away from roads in the Swan Valley, which will boost safety and potential as a tourist destination,” Ms Saffioti said.
The Northern Section will include a free-flowing dual carriageway as well as new interchanges at Stock Road, Neaves Road and Brand Highway. Bridges over local roads, railways and Ellen Brook will also be constructed.
Earlier this year, CPB Contractors was awarded the contract to deliver the Northern Section. The project is expected to be completed by mid-2019.
