The draft concept designs for the Northern Access Road project in Macquarie Point have been unveiled, and the Tasmanian Government is seeking feedback from the community.
The concept designs highlight a new road extending from the Tasman Highway/McVilly Drive interchange and will curve around the north-eastern edge of Cenotaph.
This project is a key infrastructure initiative as part of the broader redevelopment of the Macquarie Point Precinct.
Not only will the Northern Access Road provide a northern entry into the Port of Hobart, but it will also support public transport access during events at the stadium and improve connectivity to surrounding infrastructure within the Macquarie Point Precinct and Regatta Point foreshore area.
The new road will link the Tasman Highway with the Macquarie Point Precinct and it will include an event bus plaza that will service the proposed Multipurpose Stadium.

“The Northern Access Road delivers a new northern entry point to the Port of Hobart and the future Antarctic precinct, as well as paving the way to deliver our stadium.
“Importantly, the design includes a dedicated bus plaza to enable public transport operations during major events ensuring they run smoothly.
“The project team is currently engaging with key stakeholders to understand existing site uses, understand their concerns and look at ways to minimise impacts and improve serviceability.
“I also want to encourage the broader community for their input. The feedback will play a vital role in shaping the detailed design phase.
“We are delivering for Tasmania by investing in projects like the Northern Access Road,” Minister for Infrastructure and Transport Kerry Vincent said.
Feedback from this consultation phase – which will close on 22 February – will help shape the project’s detailed design.
Construction of the Macquarie Point Northern Access Road is expected to commence in the second half of this year.
