A new major milestone has been reached on the Dampier Cargo Wharf Projects in Western Australia’s mid north coast with Pilbara Ports awarding the contract for the construction of the Dampier Link Bridge to the NRW Pty Ltd and Brady Marine and Civil Pty Ltd joint venture (NBJV).

The joint venture will design and build the new 57-metre-long bridge that will connect the existing Dampier Cargo Wharf to the Dampier Bulk Handling Facility.

Stage Two works will also include the demolition and removal of the existing Southern Mooring Dolphin, piling works and the construction of a reinforced concrete deck.

Once completed, the new bridge will enhance direct shipping services in the Pilbara. It will provide a seamless connection by linking the new Dampier Bulk Handling Facility and the existing cargo wharf.

Construction of the Dampier Bulk Handling Facility is progressing well, with demolition works, dredging, drilling and blasting already completed.

The facility is due to be completed in the first half of this year and the new link bridge is set to be fully operational by late 2026.

“The Cook Government understands the economic importance of our port infrastructure, especially in the Pilbara.

“These works will provide critical advancement in enhancing the region’s direct shipping capabilities.

“Our dedication to infrastructure expansion will foster economic growth, provide support for regional communities and bolster emerging industries in the Pilbara for years to come.

“We take pride in contributing to the transformation of marine infrastructure, essential for supporting and developing green industries and technologies, WA Ports and Regional Development Minister Stephen Dawson said.

“The Port of Dampier is a major economic driver for the Pilbara and this next stage of works will support local jobs while improving the port’s capacity, safety and long-term productivity.

“Securing this stage two contract to enhance the Port of Dampier is a significant step in strengthening Australia’s trade and supply chains, ensuring this critical port can continue to support our resources sector and the national economy,” Senator for Western Australia Glenn Sterle said.

The Dampier Cargo Wharf Projects is being delivered in three stages, aiming to significantly expand the marine infrastructure and operational capability at the Port of Dampier. Stage One is delivering the new bulk handling facility while Stage Two will deliver the Dampier Link Bridge, and Stage Three will involve the refurbishment of the Dampier Cargo Wharf.

The Australian Government has committed a total of $565 million towards the delivery of common user port infrastructure upgrades in the Pilbara, including $115 million for the Port of Dampier.

“The Albanese and Cook Labor Governments are partnering with industry to deliver infrastructure that supports regional growth and at the same time bolster our nation’s export competitiveness.

“Enhancing the Port of Dampier is about future proofing one of Australia’s most important export gateways, ensuring it remains fit for purpose as demand continues to grow,” Federal Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government Minister Catherine King said.

“This pivotal milestone marks an exciting phase in the advancement of the Dampier Cargo Wharf Projects.

“This upgrade will improve port operations and facilitate a seamless refurbishment of the Dampier Cargo Wharf, ensuring uninterrupted trade to the Pilbara,” State Member for Pilbara Kevin Michel said.
