Contractor announced for QLD's $200m Capricornia Correctional Centre upgrade

Queensland Corrective Services has chosen CPB Contractors as the managing contractor for the $200 million Capricornia Correctional Centre upgrade project.

CPB was awarded a $145 million design and construct contract. The company will be delivering new as well as upgraded facilities at the Capricornia Correctional Centre near Rockhampton.

“I am pleased to announce CPB Contractor as the managing contractor for this vital development, which will not only deliver jobs for central Queensland but a significant increase in prison capacity for Corrective Services,” Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said.

The upgrade will deliver a minimum of 164 additional cells to the prison as well as support an increase in capacity and ongoing prison services. The project will also deliver 100 additional bunks in secure cells, a new residential officers stations, and a site-wide electronic security upgrade.

This project is expected to support up to 141 jobs during the construction phase and CPB will be working closely with local subcontractors as well as suppliers in order to deliver a cost effective, safe and secure construction of the correctional centre.

“We will continue to work with Queensland Corrective Services and the Queensland Government to achieve value for money outcomes for this project.

“Our team is committed to developing increased local job and work opportunities for Queensland’s Capricorn Coast residents and businesses as a priority, and to ensure that all project objectives are achieved,” CPB Contractors Managing Director Juan Santamaria said.

Construction on the Capricornia Correctional Centre upgrade is expected to commence in early 2018 and completed by 2020.
