Four South Gippsland towns will be connected to Victoria’s water grid for the first time with the $43 million Lance Creek Water Connection project.

“Providing access to Melbourne’s water system will give local businesses confidence in their water supply and the security they need to continue investing in the region,” Minister for Water Lisa Neville said.

The project will be connecting the Wonthaggi Desalination Plant to the towns that have faced water restrictions in recent years. Korumburra, Nyora, Loch and Poowong will be linked to the State’s water grid which will provide quality water and water security in the region.

“These communities have been doing it tough with water restrictions in the past. That’s why we’re investing in this project – to deliver the water security these towns need,” Member for Eastern Victoria Harriet Shing said.

Following a thorough tender process, contracts have been signed and awarded to companies that will build pipelines and pump stations needed in the project.

Companies who have been awarded contracts are:

The Lance Creek Water Connection project will be incorporating existing infrastructure that connects to the Wonthaggi Desalination Plant pipeline, making it possible to send water from Melbourne’s Cardinia Reservoir to the Lance Creek water treatment plant using the pipeline.

Work on pipelines and pump stations is expected to commence later in 2017.
