Following the announcement of a contract award for the Mordialloc Freeway project earlier this week, Decmil Group announced that it has won a $72 million balance of plant (BOP) works contract for the Warradarge Wind Farm in Western Australia.

The company announced on its LinkedIn: “We are expanding our footprint in the renewables sector with the award of our first wind project.”

The contract was awarded by Vestas and scope of works will include the design and construction of the civil and electrical BOP for the wind turbines as well as the delivery of a 55-kilometre worth of access tracks, site cabling, switch room and substation.

On the other hand, Western Power will deliver a 10-kilometre transmission line that will link the wind farm’s substation to the network connection point near Eneabba.

The Warradarge Wind Farm is located approximately 200 kilometres south of Geraldton and its development is being funded by Bright Energy Investments (BEI) - a joint venture between Synergy, DIF and Cbus.

The wind farm will comprise of 51 wind turbines that will have a total output capacity of 180MW - enough to power up to 135,000 homes in WA.

Decmil is expected to commence works immediately and the new wind farm is due for completion in September 2020.

BEI Director Diana Callebaut said: “The high calibre of the parties involved in BEI and the world-class experience of turbine manufacturer provides comfort that the Warradarge Wind Farm will be delivered smoothly and on-schedule, with first generation expected in 2020.”
