Downer secures $600m contract for works at Blackwater coal mine

Monica Gameng   |   February 27, 2018

Downer EDI has secured a $600 million three-year contract to provide mining and related services at the Blackwater coal mine in Central Queensland.

Scope of works under Downer’s contract include:

  • Overburden removal and haulage
  • Equipment maintenance
  • Drilling services

The contract will combine the company’s two existing contracts, but will not have any material impact on Downer’s existing operations at the mine.

The Blackwater coal mine is located approximately 24 kilometres south of Blackwater and it is owned by BHP Billiton Mitsubishi Alliance (BMA).

According to Downer’s Chief Executive Officer Grant Fenn, the company is pleased to extend its relationship with BMA at Blackwater.

“Downer has been working closely with BMA at a number of mine sites for many years and we look forward to continuing to provide safe and productive services at the Blackwater coal mine,” Mr Fenn said.
