EOIs process begin for $73m worth of intersection upgrades in SA

Several busy intersections across Adelaide are set for congestion-busting and jobs-creating upgrades with the Expressions of Interest (EOIs) for two work packages – with a combined value of $73 million – released to market.

“Today’s announcement means we are getting on with the job of delivering key infrastructure in Adelaide and indeed across South Australia.

“We want construction underway on priority upgrades that will bust congestion, increase productivity, improve safety, and boost jobs at a time we need it most,” Federal Minister for Population, Cities and Urban Infrastructure Alan Tudge said.

These intersection upgrades are part of the South Australian Government’s $12.9 billion pipeline of infrastructure projects that will create jobs for South Australians.

“We are delivering a record level of infrastructure over the next four years to build better roads, safer roads and reduce travel times around Adelaide.

“These road and intersection upgrades will improve safety for all road users and reduce travel times to help get South Australians home faster and safer,” Minister for Transport, Infrastructure and Local Government Stephan Knoll said.

The first package of works – valued at $60 million – will involve upgrading the intersections at Goodwood Road, Springbank Road and Daws Road.

Scope of works under this package will include road widening, realignment and extension as well as upgrades to pedestrian crossings. This project will also deliver new and upgraded pedestrian ramps and footpaths; traffic signals and road lighting; dedicated bicycle lanes; and kerb and gutter where needed.

Major construction on this project is expected to commence in late 2020 and completed by the end of 2021.

“We are busting congestion for everyone driving through this intersection to get to work, the kids to school, to the shops or to Flinders Medical Centre and Flinders Uni.

“Importantly, all these projects create local jobs and local economic activity which has never been more important than during the coronavirus pandemic,” Member for Boothby Nicolle Flint said.

The second works package is valued at $13 million and will include upgrading the intersections at Main North Road, Kings and McIntyre Roads.

This project will comprise of road widening, road extension and the installation of additional through lanes. Other works will include the delivery of new and upgraded pedestrian ramps and footpaths; new and upgraded traffic signals, road lighting, line marking and drainage; and dedicated bicycle lanes.

Early works on this upgrade is anticipated to begin in the coming months and major construction to commence in late 2020. Weather permitting, construction is due to be completed in mid-2021.

“I look forward to people in our local community being able to spend less time in the car and more time doing the things they love,” Member for Elder Carolyn Power said.
