Four new safety upgrades for Bruce Highway to begin construction soon

Monica Gameng   |   November 9, 2016

Four new upgrade packages for Bruce Highway – with a total worth of $46.7 million – are set to begin construction in Central Queensland.

Works will involve building a safer Bruce Highway by widening and reconstructing the road surface along the stretch of highway. A number of intersection upgrades will also be included in the work packages.

Up to 128 jobs will be supported during the construction phase of the four packages.

The four projects include the following:

  • $5.2 million for safety works as well as an intersection upgrade at Atkinson Road, Raspberry Creek Road and Kooltrandra Road north of Rockhampton
  • $32 million for highway upgrades between Bajool and Midgee in Rockhampton
  • $2.8 million for intersection and safety upgrades at South Ulam Road in Bajool
  • $6.7 million for road widening, reconstruction and intersection upgrade from Miriam Vale to Bororen

“The Bruce Highway is the economic backbone of many Queensland communities and our freight and tourism industries rely on it for their prosperity. These upgrades will cater for the highway’s continuing traffic growth and boost safety for all motorists in the region. These much-needed safety upgrades will include pavement widening, rebuilding rough, potholed or corrugated sections of highway and upgrading intersections to separate turning vehicles from highway traffic,” said Federal Member for Flynn Ken O’Dowd.
