The Queensland Government is bringing forward $600 million to jump start pre-construction works on the Logan and Gold Coast Faster Rail project.
This investment includes $300 million from the 2025-26 State Budget and $300 million from the Australian Government.
The announcement of funding being brought forward follows the finalisation of the Design and Pre-Construction contract with the ActivUs consortium, who will now deliver the Rail Package for this $5.7 billion development.
The Rail Package includes duplicating the rail tracks between Kuraby and Beenleigh from two to four to significantly improve service frequency and reliability for commuters.
The scope of works under this package will also involve removing five level crossings, delivery of modern train stations as well as improving access and connectivity along the 20-kilometre project corridor.
The Logan and Gold Coast Faster Rail is one of the many generational infrastructure projects to be delivered by the State Governments ahead of the 2032 Brisbane Olympic and Paralympic Games.
“We’re getting on with delivering Faster Rail to the Gold Coast, so more Queenslanders can get home to their families sooner.
“The former Labor Government mismanaged the Logan and Gold Coast Faster Rail project so badly the estimated cost blew out from $2.6 billion to $5.7 billion – and not a single track was laid.
“While Labor spent almost a decade riddled with project overruns, we’ve already started delivering projects that they couldn’t get out of the ground.
“We are wasting no time in delivering on our election commitment to create better connectivity across South East Queensland to cater for our growing population and to ensure we have legacy infrastructure in place for the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games,” Minister for Transport and Main Roads Brent Mickelberg said.
Key features of the multi-billion-dollar project include:
- Accessibility upgrades to stations at Kuraby, Trinder Park, Woodridge, Kingston, Loganlea, Bethania, Edens Landing, Holmview, and Beenleigh
- Upgraded tracks, structures and rail systems between Kuraby station and Beenleigh station, providing four tracks through the 20-kilometre corridor
- Improved safety and reduced traffic congestion through level crossing removals at Kuraby, Woodridge, Bethania, Holmview and Beenleigh
- Better connected communities through midofocations to the local road network and improved walking and cycling paths along the corridor
- Enabling works for European Train Control System (ETCS)
- Extension of the cattle siding at Holmview
The entire project is jointly funded by the Australian and Queensland Government on a 50:50 basis.
