The $5.7 billion Logan and Gold Coast Faster Rail has reached a major milestone with the awarding of the design and pre-construction contract to the ActivUs Alliance.
This contract award – which is part of the main works package – follows the announcement made by the Queensland Government that the project will be progressing as part of the 2032 Delivery Plan for the Brisbane Olympic and Paralympic Games.
The ActivUs Alliance is comprised of CIMIC Group companies CPB Contractors and UGL, ACCIONA, SMEC and WSP. The Alliance will be working in partnership with the State’s Department of Transport and Main Roads as well as Queensland Rail to carry out design and project planning activities.
The Alliance will now begin the design process and project planning works while undertaking further site investigations to ensure the Logan and Gold Coast Faster Rail is completed ahead of the 2032 Games.
“With experience in delivering transformational rail and metro projects in major cities, our team will safely and reliably deliver this next-generation rail line. The project will increase public transport capacity, improve accessibility, and deliver a more seamless, comfortable commute,” CIMIC Group Executive Chairman Juan Santamaria said.
“CPB Contractors’ highly skilled local team will draw on our decades of experience delivering complex and city-shaping infrastructure, as well as our local partnerships, to build this game-changing infrastructure and support Queensland’s growing population and thriving tourism industry. We look forward to continuing our collaborative engagement with local people, suppliers and businesses to ensure we maximise economic, employment and social opportunities for the community,” CPB Contractors Managing Director Jason Spears said.
“UGL is a leader in the Australian transport sector with proven capabilities in large infrastructure construction, including complex mechanical and electrical installations on some of Australia’s largest transport systems. We look forward to working alongside out Alliance partners to deliver increased capacity for local residents and visitors to South-East Queensland, which will support population growth in the area and help the region to prepare for the historic Brisbane Olympics in 2032,” UGL Managing Director Doug Moss said.
The Logan and Gold Coast Faster Rail will double the number of tracks between Kuraby and Beenleigh, providing more frequent and reliable public transport services to and from the Gold Coast.
This multi-billion-dollar development will include:
“Our wealth of knowledge and experience, locally and globally, will contribute to the delivery of a solution that will transform the way people travel, enable stronger connection across communities and create a legacy for the people of Queensland,” ACCIONA CEO for Australia and New Zealand Bede Noonan said.
“ACCIONA’s highly skilled local team will draw on experience delivering complex infrastructure projects, in particular a wealth of knowledge and experience in elevated station structures as well as precast concrete solutions and complex geotechnical conditions. Our team focusses on delivery that is safe, certain and minimises disruption to customers and the surrounding community,” ACCIONA Queensland Regional Director David Balmer said.
“We are proud to be part of this transformative project alongside our Alliance Partners to support the Queensland Government in delivering faster rail that will significantly enhance connectivity for our growing communities in Brisbane, Logan, and the Gold Coast, and be one of the critical links in preparing for the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games,” WSP Regional Director Tom Cook said.
“It is a fantastic outcome to be delivering the Logan and Gold Coast Faster Rail project. Our team is committed to delivering an innovative, high-quality solution that will benefit Queenslanders for generations to come. This project is a major step forward in transforming the region’s transport infrastructure making travel safer, more accessible, and better connect communities along the corridor. We are genuinely excited to contribute the knowledge and expertise from SMEC and work with our partners in the ActivUs Alliance to successfully deliver this project,” SMEC Senior Executive Director for Transport Trevor Sullivan said.
