Golding Contractors - a subsidiary of NRW Holdings - has secured an early contractor involvement (ECI) contract with Fitzroy Australia Resources for works at the recently announced coking coal mine in Queensland’s Bowen Basin.

“I am pleased that Golding has been able to continue its strong and collaborative partnership with Fitzroy Australia Resources,” NRW holdings CEO and Managing Director Jules Pemberton said.

The ECI contract awarded to Golding is for project development services at the Ironbark No 1 mine that’s located approximately 35 kilometres north east of Moranbah. Under this contract, the company will undertake detailed design, costing and project scheduling for the civil as well as mining components of the mine development.

Golding will also be building a number of infrastructures related to the mine development. This will include excavating and stabilising the box cut mine; installation of portals; and the construction of haul roads, site access roads, dams and other civil infrastructure.

“This agreement with Golding is an important step toward construction and ultimately realising our vision for a modern and innovative Ironbark No 1 coal mine,” Fitzroy Australia Resources CEO Grant Polwarth said.

Earlier this month, the Queensland Government has signed off on the mining lease for Ironbark No 1. The project is expected to generate more than 400 jobs, including 160 construction and 350 operational jobs.

The first coal from the mine is anticipated for the first quarter of 2020.
