Golding Contractors - a wholly-owned subsidiary of NRW Holdings - has been awarded a contract valued at $35 million by BHP Billiton Mitsubishi Alliance (BMA) for civil works at the Blackwater Mine located in Queensland’s Bowen Basin.

Scope of this contract will include:

  • Establishment of an alternate access for heavy vehicles outside the mining footprint
  • Delivery of civil infrastructure that will enable the relocation of a communication mast
  • Relocation of critical mine infrastructure such as HDPE pipeline, high voltage power lines and fibre optic cable
  • Construction of drainage structure towards an existing creek system to help remove water flows from the proposed mining area
  • Provision of flood protection (levees) for the new and existing mining pits
  • Approximately 1,200,000 cubic metres of earthworks; 4 kilometres of HDPE pipelines; 22 kilometres of fibre optic cabling; and 21 kilometres of overhead cabling

The works are due to be completed in January 2021.

According to NRW Holding’s CEO and Managing Director Jules Pemberton, this new contract is in addition to the contract awarded by BMA in July of this year. The previous contract is valued at $34 million and includes earthworks and pipeworks at the Goonyella mine - which is due for completion in August 2020.

The Blackwater and Goonyella mines are part of the Bowen Basin mines operated by BMA that produces seaborne metallurgical coal.

Earlier this month, BMA awarded a $200 million contract to Downer EDI for mining services at the Goonyella Riverside coal mine. You can read more about it here.
