GR Engineering wins $366m EPC contract on the Thunderbird project WA

GR Engineering Services (GRES) has secured a $366.3 million contract from Sheffield Resources for engineering design, procurement and construction of a processing plant at the Thunderbird Mineral Sands Project in Western Australia.

Under this contract, GRES will deliver a 7.5Mtpa mineral processing plant as well as associated infrastructure at the Thunderbird operations - located at the Dampier Peninsula, approximately 60 kilometres west of Derby.

GRES’ contract will also cover commissioning and testing of process and non-process infrastructure for Thunderbird. This will include a wet concentrate plant, mineral separation plant, low temperature roasting plant, administration buildings, bore fields and a high voltage power distribution. The company will also be provide support to operations for a six-month period following the completion of construction.

“This contract represents an important milestone in the development of the world-class Thunderbird Mineral Sands Project. GR Engineering has welcomed the opportunity to contribute towards bringing the project to an advanced pre-execution phase and is now committed to progressing its safe and successful delivery for Sheffield,” GRES Managing Director Geoff Jones said.

Construction on the processing plant and associated infrastructure is set to commence in the second quarter of 2019 - after the wet season - and it is estimated to have a two-year delivery period.
