Hazell Bros to begin works on Richmond Road upgrade in TAS

Monica Gameng   |   November 14, 2019

Another section of Tasmania’s Richmond Road Master Plan is set to begin construction this month following the awarding of Hazell Bros as the winning tenderer to deliver the safety upgrades.

This project is part of the State Government’s commitment towards the delivery of vital infrastructure Tasmania needs now and in the future.

The Richmond Road Master Plan is aimed at making the stretch of highway between Cambridge and Richmond safer for motorists as this road is an important route for daily commuters as well as agricultural and commercial traffic.

The entire project is being delivered in eight sections, with two already completed. Scope of works include road widening, sealing shoulders, road alignment improvements, junction upgrades and slow vehicle turnouts.

Works on the next section of the project will include safety upgrades to 3.2 kilometres of Richmond Road between the University of Tasmania Farm and Malcolms Hut Road, and upgrades to the Boyes Street junction.

Other works to be undertaken include the construction of a new Cambridge Link Road - connecting Richmond Road to the Tasman Highway Acton Interchange - which will provide motorists with a more efficient route that avoids Cambridge Village and the busy Richmond and Cambridge Roads junction.

The works are due to be completed in mid-2021.

Planning for the next sections of the Richmond Road Master Plan is now underway. This involves the two stretches of Richmond Road between Malcolms Hut Road and the Grasstree Hill intersection.
