LendLease to deliver The Northern Road and Bringelly Road upgrades in NSW

LendLease has been named as the preferred contractor to deliver the next stage of The Northern Road and Bringelly Road upgrades as part of the Australian and NSW Governments’ $3.6 billion Western Sydney Infrastructure Plan.

As part of their scope of works, LendLease will build the 11.5-kilometre section of The Northern Road – between Peter Brock Drive and Mersey Road – as well as upgrade a 4.3-kilometre section of Bringelly Road – between King Street at Rossmore and The Northern Road at Bringelly.

“These upgrades will prepare one of Australia’s fastest growing region’s roads for future traffic growth and improve travel times for motorists by widening the existing roads to four lanes in each direction.

“The Western Sydney Infrastructure Plan is transforming the economy of Western Sydney by supporting the Western Sydney Airport at Badgerys Creek, which will be operational by 2026. The Australian Government has committed up to $5.3 billion over 10 years in the 2017-18 Budget to build Western Sydney Airport through a new company, WSA Co,” said Federal Minister for Urban Infrastructure Paul Fletcher.

According to Minister for Western Sydney Stuart Ayres, the Western Sydney Airport is already proving a catalyst for the region’s economic growth while vital road upgrades, like The Northern Road and Bringelly Road upgrades, will benefit residents by reducing congestion on local roads.

“We’re cracking on with the delivery of vital arterial roads around the future airport site to ensure we can support residential and commercial growth and meet future traffic demand.

“Once the entire $1.6 billion The Northern Road Upgrade is completed, motorists travelling between Narellan and Penrith will benefit from 35 kilometres of upgraded road, meaning increases road capacity, less congestion and safer roads,” Mr Ayres said.

Construction works are expected to commence in the coming months and be completed by 2020, weather permitting.
