The Master Plan for the $550 million Fairfield Hospital Redevelopment in New South Wales has been unveiled and the State Government is encouraging the local community to provide their feedback on the plans.
The Fairfield Hospital Redevelopment Master Plan highlights the vision for the project and it showcases how it will integrate with the existing health facilities while enabling for future development opportunities on site.
“Fairfield and surrounding communities deserve a hospital that meets their growing healthcare needs.
“I’m so pleased that the Fairfield Hospital redevelopment is a step closer to being realised.
“The release of the master plan is a critical stage when the community can have a first glimpse of the shape of the project and what is has to offer, as well as providing their valuable feedback,” Minister for Health Ryan Park said.
A redevelopment zone has been identified in front of the existing Fairfield Hospital building where new clinical facilities could be housed in the future. The site is conveniently located near the existing hospital to allow integration with existing services.
The scope for a new clinical services building to be built within this zone will be confirmed in the next stage of planning. Parking zones near to either end of the hospital buildings have also been outlined alongside green zones for outdoor spaces.
Hundreds of health staff and community members have provided valuable feedback during the early planning phase to help shape the future of the Fairfield Hospital, identifying features that are vital to them – including natural light and views, simple drop-off and pick-up areas as well as a health facility that reflects the vibrant and diverse local community the hospital services.
“The project will provide a significant boost in employment. The Fairfield Hospital Redevelopment will support an estimated 1,000 jobs with the potential for supporting thousands of indirect jobs throughout the life of the project,” Member for Fairfield David Saliba said.
“The momentum is clearly building on the ground at Fairfield Hospital, with staff and the community excited about the announcement of the Master Plan which will guide our redevelopment.
“This redevelopment will provide contemporary, purpose-built health facilities and services to care for our growing community closer to home,” Acting Fairfield Hospital General Manager Cara Egan said.

In a first for NSW Health capital works projects, new light scanning technology was utilised to give precise measurements of hospital buildings to guide planning for the redevelopment. This technology relies on a state-of-the-art body-worn scanner that bounces light off the walls, providing accurate floor plans instantly.
This new technology allows rooms to be measured quickly. Because it does not capture images of people, both occupied and vacant rooms were easily and rapidly scanned without disturbing staff, visitors or patients.
Within six days, data was captured for 600 internal spaces in Fairfield Hospital, key service areas, the cafe, entries as well as roads and grounds.
Community information drop-in sessions will be held at the Fairfield Hospital main foyer on 6 May from 12pm to 2pm and 7 May from 7am to 9am, and at Bonnyrigg Plaza on 9 May from 10am to 12pm. The community can also provide their feedback online.
“This master plan is an exciting new chapter for the future of our redeveloped hospital.
“Community and staff feedback is so valuable, I encourage our local community to attend the information sessions and to have their say via the online survey,” Member for Prospect Hugh McDermott said.
“I’m pleased to see this project is progressing, and I encourage the community to attend the drop-in sessions to see the plans and provide feedback,” Member for Cabramatta Tri Vo said.
“The launch of the Master Plan for Fairfield Hospital signals an important milestone in providing expanded and enhanced facilities for our staff and community.
“I am excited that our staff and the community will have the opportunity to give their feedback at upcoming information sessions which will help shape this fantastic redevelopment,” Chief Executive South Western Sydney Local Health District Sonia Marshall said.
Currently, the South Western Sydney Local Health District is determining clinical priorities for the redevelopment and it is expected to be completed in the coming months. This will help inform the next planning stage and outline the location and size of the project.
Construction timeframes will be confirmed once a builder has been appointed.
The Albanese Labor Government will be committing an additional $80 million to expand Fairfield Hospital’s emergency department.
Meanwhile, the New South Wales Government is investing over $3.6 billion over four years to deliver new and upgraded hospitals and health services across western Sydney.
