Multiplex has been appointed to deliver Monash University’s $81 million Biomedical Learning and Teaching Building which is located at their Clayton campus in Victoria.

“We are delighted to continue our ongoing collaboration with Monash University and play a pivotal role in its vision for higher education through delivering revolutionary learning spaces,” Multiplex VIC Managing Director Graham Cottam said.

The new building, designed by architects Denton Corker Marshall, will span four levels with a lower ground floor and roof plantroom. The Biomedical Learning and Teaching Building will be providing up to 11,400-SQM of state-of-the-art learning spaces for students.

The new facility will also feature a 1,200-SQM informal learning hub which is going to be built to accommodate up to 400 students, with an average of 90 informal learning seats each floor. As part of this project, number of new laboratories in the building will be constructed to Physical Containment Level 2 (PC2) and the façade is going to be pressure tested to ensure a high level of air tightness.

The building’s ‘striking element’ is going to be a hanging steel staircase which is suspended from a skylight truss and will be connected to the different levels of the facility.

Construction on Monash University’s new Biomedical Learning and Teaching Building is set to begin immediately and is expected to be completed by November 2018.
