The Queensland Government is progressing the $5.75 billion Logan and Gold Coast Faster Rail project, with design and pre-construction activities set to commence.

This is part of the 2032 Delivery Plan which showcases a roadmap of generational infrastructure for all Queenslanders beyond the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

“We are getting on with the job of delivering more frequent, reliable and affordable public transport for the Gold Coast.

“Entering into the design and pre-construction contract now will ensure this key infrastructure investment is completed ahead of the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

“The Logan and Gold Coast Faster Rail project will address increasing population growth and customer demand between Brisbane and the Gold Coast and unlock capacity for additional train services for Queenslanders,” Minister for Transport and Main Roads Brent Mickelberg said.

The Logan and Gold Coast Faster Rail project will double the number of tracks between Kuraby and Beenleigh to provide more frequent and reliable public transport services to and from the Gold Coast.

Key features of the multi-billion-dollar project include:

  • Accessibility upgrades to stations at Kuraby, Trinder Park, Woodridge, Kingston, Loganlea, Bethania, Edens Landing, Holmview and Beenleigh
  • Double the capacity of the Gold Coast rail line and reduce waiting times at stations between Brisbane, Logan and the Gold Coast
  • Approximately 20 kilometres of new tracks and rail systems between Kuraby station and Beenleigh station, increasing the corridor from two to four tracks
  • Better connected communities through dedicated active transport facilities and paths along the corridor
  • Improved road network efficiency and reduced peak hour traffic congestion through intersection upgrades and level crossing removals at Kuraby, Woodridge, Bethania, Holmview, and Beenleigh
  • New train signalling technology between Salisbury and Varsity Lakes
  • Extension of the cattle siding at Holmview

This major transport infrastructure project is jointly funded by the Australian and Queensland Government.

“The Brisbane to Gold Coast line is already one of the busiest long-distance commutes, so being able to add more services will be of huge benefit to our communities here on the Gold Coast.

“This is also a step forward to reducing the congestion on the M1.

“It’s great to see such significant progress on this LGC project from the Crisafulli Government, who is delivering for our region for the 2032 Games and beyond,” Member for Theodore Mark Boothman said.
