Seymour Whyte Constructions has been named as the preferred contractor for the $110 million Chandler Highway Upgrade project in Victoria, with works expected to begin in a few months.
This upgrade will reduce travel times by eight minutes in the morning peak and about 13 minutes during the afternoon/evening peak for the 44,000 plus motorists that use the highway every day.
“We’re putting people first by unlocking the frustrating bottlenecks and building a wider and safer Chandler Highway bridge.
“By removing the bottleneck where four lanes become two, the length of traffic queues will be reduced and allow traffic to move more freely when travelling along Chandler Highway over the Yarra River,” said Minister for Roads Luke Donnellan.
The project will also improve reliability as well as increase pedestrian and cyclist access.
Works will include:
As part of the upgrade, Chandler Highway Bridge – the historic 127-year-old bridge – is going to be converted into a shared-use path for cyclists and pedestrians. Cyclists, however, will also be able to cross the highway by using a new underpass near Yarra Boulevard.
Construction on the Chandler Highway Upgrade is set to commence in May 2017 and be completed by mid-2018.
