The preferred proponent to deliver the new METRONET Midland Station in Western Australia has been announced, with the contract to be awarded later this year to the Midland Junction Alliance.

Midland Junction Alliance is comprised of McConnell Dowell Constructions, Georgiou Group, Arcadis Australia and BG&E.

“The Morrison Government is getting on with delivering infrastructure projects that improve public transport for communities across Australia, making it easier ti move around our capital cities and access retail and commercial precincts.

“METRONET will play a critical role in supporting the growth of Perth and is just one of the many major projects to receive funding from the Morrison Government as part of its record $110 billion, 10-year infrastructure investment pipeline, which is helping to drive Australia’s world-leading economic recovery,” Minister for Communications, Urban Infrastructure, Cities and the Arts Paul Fletcher said.

The new Midland Station project will include:

  • Relocating Midland Station to the east of its existing location and demolition of the existing Midland Station building
  • New 12-stand bus interchange and multi-storey car park with more than 600 bays at the location of the former Midland Station
  • Cale Street level crossing by extending the existing Cale Street south to Yelverton Drive
  • Closing Helena Street level crossing to create new public spaces and safe connections between the bus interchange and station
  • A 24/7 publicly accessible pedestrian overpass to connect the north and south sides of the rail corridor and provide access to all platforms during station operations
  • More than 1 kilometre of Principal Shared Path (PSP) along the northern side of the rail corridor, connecting to the existing cycle network at Morrison Road and Lloyd Street
  • 1.7 kilometres of new dual track connecting into the new Bellevue Depot

“Replacing the Midland Station was a key McGowan Government election commitment and we have reached a key milestone in the project today by announcing the preferred proponent.

“Midland is an important retail, commercial and medical hub and this project will allow the station to continue playing a central role connecting visitors with these businesses and services.

“The new station will bring an economic, social and environmental boost to the Midland city centre, while supporting local jobs during construction,” Transport Minister Rita Saffioti said.

Once up and running, the new station is expected to have 3,300 daily boardings and projected to grow to 3,700 in 2031.

The new location of Midland Station will help improve connections to Midland Gateway Shopping Centre as well as Midland Health Campus. Passengers will also have a 25-minute, two-zone journey to the Perth central business district.

The new Midland Station is jointly funded by the Australian and Western Australian Governments, with the former contributing $82.5 million.

“The Morrison Government continues to deliver on crucial infrastructure projects, improving access for Hasluck residents and other travelling through our region.

“Hasluck residents and businesses can look forward to welcoming an increase in tourism with the streamlined connection into Perth’s CBD.

“The train services from Midland to Perth is vital in ensuring our region is connected and accessible for both local residents and businesses,” Federal Member for Hasluck Ken Wyatt said.
