Procurement now underway for remaining Sydney Metro West works

Procurement has commenced for the remaining work packages for Sydney Metro West and a new innovative contracting approach has been introduced. 

The Sydney Metro West Partnership contracting model was developed as a result of industry feedback as well as lessons learned from the Sydney Metro City & Southwest development and national and international projects. 

This new contracting model will provide a more collaborative approach to construction, and it also aims to support a more sustainable construction industry. 

Further development and refinement of the model will be undertaken with the market as part of the prequalification process that will begin in January 2023. 

Contracts that are currently being considered for the new Partnership include: 

• Trains and signalling, which includes design, supply, testing and commissioning of the trains, the signalling and systems required to deliver driverless train operations 
• Stations Package West, which includes the delivery of underground stations at The Bays, Five Dock, Burwood North, North Strathfield and Westmead 
• The station component of each Integrated Station Development, which includes separate packages for Parramatta, Sydney Olympic Park, Pyrmont and Hunter Street 
• Operations and maintenance, which includes the provision of customer and operational services and maintenance for a 15-year operations term 
• Linewide, which includes the design, supply, testing and commissioning of all other rail and linewide systems 

Infrastructure above the new Sydney Metro West stations as well as the precincts around them are going to be delivered under contracts with Sydney Metro as a separate contract to the Sydney Metro West Partnership. 

Registrations of Interest have also commenced for upcoming Sydney Metro West works and services. This includes: 

• Linewide works – construction, fit-out and installation of linewide systems for the railway 
• Trains and Signalling supply – design, manufacture and supply of modern metro trains and rail signalling and train control systems 
• Operations and Maintenance – Operation and Maintenance of complex rail infrastructure 
• Station works – construction of stations at Westmead, Parramatta, Sydney Olympic Park, North Strathfield, Burwood North, Five Dock, The Bays, Pyrmont and Hunter Street 
• Over Station Development works – responsibility for the delivery of Integrated Station Developments at Sydney Olympic Park Station, Parramatta Station and Pyrmont Station

Sydney Metro West is a once-in-a-century project that will transform Sydney and the way people move around the region for years to come. 

This massive transport project will deliver a new 24-kilometre metro line along with new metro stations at Westmead, Parramatta, Sydney Olympic Park, North Strathfield, Burwood North, Five Dock, The Bays, Pyrmont and Hunter Street in the CBD. 

Construction on Sydney Metro West commenced in 2020 and it is expected to create up to 10,000 direct and 70,000 indirect jobs.
