QLD Warrego Highway Upgrade Project gets $75m funding boost

The Australian and Queensland Governments are investing an additional $75 million towards the delivery of the Warrego Highway Upgrade from Oakey to Miles.

The $63.6 million Dalby-Miles Pavement Widening and Safety Upgrades and the $11.7 million Oakey-Miles Safety Upgrades Package 2 will be benefitting from the investment, and Georgiou Group has been awarded the contracts to deliver both projects.

According to Deputy Prime Minister and Federal Minister for Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Development Michael McCormack, the two projects are going to be delivered together.

“Six new car and truck stopping bays will be established between Oakey and Miles, and some trees removed within the clear zones, to reduce off-road crashes.

“The Warrego highway Upgrade Program (WHUP) has already delivered several safety benefits, and these works will make our national highway even safer,” Mr McCormack said.

Works on the Warrego Highway will include widening sections of the road to 12 metres as well as removing larger slopes along the edge of the highway between Dalby and Miles. Sections of the highway between Oakey and Miles will also have a wider centre line added to further separate high-speed west and east-bound traffic.

“The upgrades will improve safety for all motorists while helping to keep Queensland’s export industries moving as efficiently as possible,” Queensland Transport and Main Roads Minister Mark Bailey said.

Both projects are expected to support an average of 244 direct and indirect jobs during the development period.

Construction is expected to commence in the coming weeks and is due to be completed early in 2020.
