The New South Wales Government has made a record investment of $55.6 billion through the 2019-20 State Budget to deliver transport infrastructure across the State over the next four years to help ease congestion and keep the community moving.
This massive investment includes $32.2 billion for public transport projects as well as $23.4 billion for road projects.
Through the Budget, more than $300 million will be invested to improve accessibility for rail users. This is going to be part of the $885 million funding to deliver the Transport Access Program over the next four years.
Approximately $812 million will also be invested to progress the New Intercity Fleet. The new trains have been designed to have a new level of comfort as well as safety and accessibility for commuters travelling between Sydney, the Central Coast, Newcastle, the Blue Mountains and the Illawarra. In addition, a new maintenance facility will be built at Kangy, near Wyong.
$3.2 billion from the 2019-20 State Budget has also been allocated over four years to continue the More Trains, More Services Program which is set to deliver another 17 new air-conditioned eight-car Waratah Series 2 trains. This program will bring more train services on the Illawarra, Airport and South Coast Lines.
With works progressing on the City and Southwest Metro, this year’s State Budget will include $1.2 billion to continue delivering this transport project.
The 2019-20 State Budget will also get works on the Metro West underway with a $6.4 billion fund over four years. Construction on Metro West is anticipated to commence next year and the final schedule for project delivery will be confirmed upon the completion of the final business case.
The State Government has also allocated $561 million from this year’s budget to ramp up the delivery of the Parramatta Light Rail project that is set to connect Westmead and Carlingford via the Parramatta CBD and Camellia.
Local roads will also be given much-needed upgrades and the NSW Government has further allocated $480 million to upgrade sections of Mamre and Mulgoa roads in Western Sydney.
“As part of this allocation, a 3.8 kilometre section of Mamre Road between the M4 Motorway and Erskine Park Road will be widened to four lanes, benefiting drivers for years to come,” Minister for Transport and Roads Andrew Constance said.

The $14.4 billion recurrent transport budget that will fund the operation of transport services and commitments - such as the Regional Seniors Transport Card - will also be delivered in addition to the massive infrastructure budget.
