Rail Projects Victoria has opened the Registration of Interest (ROI) process for what will be Victoria’s largest public transport project in history - the Suburban Rail Loop - following the beginning of an extensive stakeholder engagement process last month.

The ROI process will aid the State Government in assessing organisations that could possibly undertake the delivery of the project.

Submissions are open for organisations with a variety of capabilities which includes designers, engineers, rail system providers, rail operators, rolling stock providers, investors, financiers, and architects.

“The Suburban Rail Loop will create tens of thousands of jobs during construction and will change the way we move around Melbourne forever, slashing travel times and getting you where you need to go,” Premier Daniel Andrews said.

The Suburban Rail Loop will deliver a new 90-kilometre underground rail link that connects Melbourne’s middle suburbs to priority growth areas together with 12 new train stations. The project will also connect major railway lines from the Frankston Line to the Werribee Line via Melbourne Airport.

This massive transport project will enable locals access major suburban employment, education and health precincts without the need to pass by the CBD.

Once the Suburban Rail Loop is operational, it will take thousands of passengers off the existing rail lines and it will also remove up to 200,000 cars off major roads.

Construction of the Suburban Rail Loop is anticipated to create up to 20,000 jobs.
