Construction on the $375 million Mordialloc Bypass is one step closer to commencing with two contractors already shortlisted to build the project.

The two consortia that are short listed to tender are the CPB Contractors - Seymour Whyte Joint Venture and the McConnell Dowell - Decmil Joint Venture.

This project is going to build a nine-kilometre freeway that will link the Mornington Peninsula Freeway at Springvale Road in Aspendale Gardens to the Dingley Bypass in Dingley Village, which will create a continuous connection to Frankston.

“We’re building Melbourne’s newest freeway, linking Frankston and Mordialloc with a four lane freeway to ease congestion and give local roads back to local communities,” Member for Frankston Paul Edbrooke said.

Mordialloc Bypass is going to be a four-lane freeway which will feature entry and exit ramp interchanges at Springvale Road, Governor Road, Lower Dandenong Road and Centre Dandenong Road.

Once completed, motorists will be able to save up to 10 minutes in travel times in each direction between Mornington Peninsula Freeway and Dingley Bypass. The new Mordialloc Bypass will also be diverting tens of thousands of vehicles away from nearby arterial roads.

This multi-million dollar project will also include building a new Thames Promenade interchange that will provide easier access to the Mornington Peninsula Freeway as well as a new shared user path that is going to be built along the entire length of the project, giving pedestrians and cyclists a safer route.

Major construction activities are expected to commence in 2019 and the Mordialloc Freeway upgrade is set to be completed by the end of 2021.

In April of this year, additional funding of $75 million was invested towards the project from the Victorian Budget 2018/19.

“... just weeks ago, we announced further funding to upgrade the Mordialloc Bypass to a freeway standard and now we’ve shortlisted contractors to tender for this exciting project,” Member for Mordialloc Tim Richardson said.
