VIC $375m Mordialloc Bypass one step closer to construction

The multi-million-dollar Mordialloc Bypass project in Victoria marks another milestone with a $75 million investment from the Victorian Budget 2018/19 to deliver the upgrade that will get motorists home faster and safer.

The $375 million upgrade, once completed, will cut up to 10 minutes off of travel times along the route. The Mordialloc Freeway will connect the Mornington Peninsula Freeway at Springvale Road in Aspendale Gardens to the Dingley Bypass in Dingley Village, which will create a continuous freeway from Frankston to Clayton.

This project will involve the construction of additional lanes as well as removing a further three sets of traffic lights.

“By building the Mordialloc Freeway we’re giving drivers a continuous trip from Frankston to Clayton with no traffic lights, and taking ten minutes off the trip,” Minister for Roads and Road Safety Luke Donnellan said.

The new Modialloc Freeway will include an entry and exit ramp interchanges at Springvale Road, Governor Road, Lower Dandenong Road and Centre Dandenong Road. In addition, a new interchange is going to be built at Thames Promenade to make it easier for motorists to access Mordialloc Freeway.

The Mordialloc Bypass is going to be built to a freeway standard which will help ease congestion on roads such as the Nepean Highway, Boundary Road, Wells Road, Westall Road and Springvale Road. A shared path is also going to be constructed along the entire route to keep pedestrians and cyclists separated from traffic.

Expressions of Interest has been called for the project earlier this year, with the winning proponent to be announced later in 2018.

Construction of the new Mordialloc Bypass is expected to commence in 2019 and be completed by the end of 2021.
