Shortlisted tenderers annouced for WA's $40m Mitchell Freeway widening project

Three shortlisted tenderers have been announced to deliver the $40 million Mitchell Freeway widening project in Perth, Western Australia.

BMD Constructions Pty Ltd (WA), CPB Contractors Pty Ltd, and WBHO Infrastructure Australia Pty Ltd have all been invited to submit proposals by February 2018.

According to Federal Minister for Urban Infrastructure Paul Fletcher, this project is part of the Australian Government’s $1.6 billion investment in the WA Infrastructure Package which will support 17 new projects as well as provide a major boost to the local economy. Approximately 6,000 jobs are expected to be supported by this package of works.

“The Turnbull Government is committed to boosting the economy and creating jobs for West Australians through investment in priority projects such as this.

“The Turnbull Government is getting on with the job of delivering almost $7 billion worth of infrastructure projects in Western Australia,” Mr Fletcher said.

WA Minister for Transport Rita Saffioti said that the Mitchell Freeway carries some of Perth’s highest traffic demands, with up to 180,000 vehicles daily. Ms Saffioti added that these works on the freeway are vital to keep traffic flowing between Perth’s northern suburbs and commercial, residential and recreational facilities in the wider metropolitan area.

“The project work will include an additional lane for seven kilometres reducing the need for merging bottlenecks and improving congestion and safety along this stretch of freeway.

“Further State funding will be allocated on top of the roadworks component to complete the missing link on the Pedestrian Shared Path from Glendalough Station to Hutton Street to improve infrastructure for both cyclists and pedestrians,” Ms Saffioti said.

Construction is expected to commence by mid-2018 and be completed by the end of 2019.
