Clough has recently won a new contract from BHP for works on the $4.88 billion South Flank iron ore project in the Pilbara region of Western Australia. The contract is for the delivery of the Ore Handling Plant (OHP) at the South Flank operations.

“We are pleased to continue to grow our relationship with BHP on the South Flank project, and indeed, within the Mining sector in WA,” Clough CEO and Managing Director Peter Bennett said.

Clough’s scope of works under this contract will involve structural, mechanical, piping, electrical and instrumentation of the OHP, which includes the interconnecting conveyors and transfer stations.

This package of works is expected to support up to 300 jobs which will be filled by Clough’s Western Australia team.

Monadelphous Group has also been awarded a contract for works related to South Flank’s outflow infrastructure. You can read more about it here.

Construction on the South Flank iron ore project commenced in July 2018, which follows the announcement of a $3.9 billion investment from BHP.

The South Flank Project is being developed by BHP’s Western Australia Iron Ore (WAIO) business and it is located approximately 120 kilometres north west of Newman. The iron ore project will comprise of an 80Mtpa crushing and screening plant, an overland conveyor system, stockyard and loading facilities, sourcing of a new mining fleet, substantial mine development and pre-strip works.

The whole South Flank Project is anticipated to create up to 2,500 jobs during the construction phase and up to 600 jobs once it is operational.
