Train station upgrades across VIC to support hundreds of local jobs

The Victorian Government is getting on with upgrading 16 train stations across the State that will create hundreds of local jobs as well as improve the public transport network that Victorians rely on.

The $24 million worth of works are part of the $328.4 million investment in public transport and roads maintenance delivered through the State Government’s $2.7 billion Building Works program.

The investment will cover the upgrades on 11 metropolitan station – including Heathmont, Frankston, Melton and Moonee Ponds – and five regional train stations including in Broadford, North Shore and Lara.

“We’re hitting the ground running with these projects – creating hundreds of new jobs in the coming months to support local communities across Victoria that need it most.

“Every dollar spent as part of this extra investment will support jobs and families, and improve our public transport network for everyone who relies on it,” Minister for Public Transport Ben Carroll said.

The upgrades are expected to create and support over 600 jobs, which will help local families and businesses across Victoria.

Works will include the installation of new passenger information screens, public address equipment and disability shelters together with extra car parks, toilet facilities and bike parking racks.

These upgrades will make stations and the public transport network safer and more accessible, which reflect the feedback from passengers on how the stations can be improved.

The works will also help boost economic activity in suburban areas and regional towns, supporting local recovery efforts as well as helping the State move as it recovers from the impacts of the recent pandemic.
