Updated designs for the Beenleigh Station precinct upgrade have been unveiled, and this marks another step forward on the Crisafulli Government’s commitment to delivering a more reliable and better-connected rail network for South East Queensland.

This precinct upgrade is part of the $5.75 billion Logan and Gold Coast Faster Rail project, which aims to double the tracks between Kuraby and Beenleigh to increase capacity, improve reliability and reduce travel times between Brisbane and the Gold Coast.

The Logan and Gold Coast Faster Rail is jointly funded by the Australian and Queensland Governments, each contributing $2.875 billion.

The new Beenleigh Station will be located about 650 metres north, closer to the town centre and key community facilities. This will create a more accessible and integrated precinct for commuters as well as local businesses.

“The Crisafulli Government is committed to getting on with the job of delivering the infrastructure Queenslanders need, after a decade of delays, missed opportunities and underinvestment in key transport corridors under the former Labor Government.

“We said we would build a more reliable transport network for Queensland and that’s exactly what we are doing with projects like Logan and Gold Coast Faster Rail.

“After years of planning uncertainty and under delivery under Labor, we are progressing a design that reflects the needs of the community with a station closer to where people live, work and connect.

“The new precinct will support more frequent and reliable services, reduce congestion on the network and make it easier for people to get where they need to go,” Minister for Transport and Main Roads Brent Mickelberg said.

Key features of the Beenleigh Station precinct upgrade include:

  • Improved station accessibility with new lifts, straightened and raised platforms, hearing loops and accessible car parks
  • Improved safety and customer experience with lighting and CCTV throughout the station and park ‘n’ ride and increased platform coverage
  • Improved walking connections between the station, local destinations, and nearby amenities including Beenleigh Town Square, Beenleigh Library, Beenleigh State School and businesses
  • A new multi-storey park ‘n’ ride with approximately 600 car parks and a bus interchange facility
  • A new pedestrian overpass connecting both sides of the rail line to make accessing the station easier
  • Upgrades and new traffic signals at George and Zander streets, as well as George Street, Boundary Street and Logan River Road, to improve local traffic flow, safety and flood resilience

Community feedback has helped shape the updated designs, and the community is now encouraged to have their say on the latest designs until 31 May.

Importantly, the new location of Beenleigh Station will allow construction to be carried out while keeping the existing station operational, minimising disruption for commuters.

Local road upgrades and improved traffic flow will also support the growing community and surrounding suburbs.
