Whittens awarded $22m Mount Pleasant Operation works

Privately owned Australian company, Whittens, have secured a $22 million contract with G&S Engineering Services to provide bulk earthworks and other construction packages at MACH Energy Australia's Mount Pleasant Operation in the Hunter Valley region of New South Wales.

The contract will see Whittens complete "plant site bulk earthworks, construction of the ROM wall, roads, drainage, and buried services, together with the detailed earthworks and construction of 7,000m3 of structural concrete," according to a company statement. Included in the concrete scope of work are major structures such as a sizing station, plant feed and thickener areas, transfer pads through to the stockpile and a reclaim tunnel.

After already securing a major project in New South Wales this year, a $15 million contract with Zenviron for the Sapphire Wind Farm in Northern NSW, Director Tyron Whitten said this next major project evinces Whittens' position as an industry leader in bulk earthworks and concrete construction.

"With on-going projects in the Pilbara region of Western Australia, the Northern Territory, Queensland and New South Wales, covering the resources, defence and renewable energy sectors, Whittens’ diversification strategy, supported by our loyal on- and off-site workforce, has seen us continue to succeed and grow, in what has been viewed as a difficult market.”

With the scope of works requiring a substantial list of heavy earthmoving equipment, Whittens ran multiple sourcing exercises through the PlantMiner portal to secure local involvement on the project. This included a plant list of  excavators, graders, scrapers, loaders, dump trucks, water trucks, rollers and dozers

MPC Earthmoving, who joined as PlantMiner supplier in 2014, responded quickly to the RFQ and provided comprehensive quotes for several machines. Within a month, they had scooped up an eight month contract. It's their biggest contract win through PlantMiner to date.

Peter Ausling, MPC Earthmoving Manager shared his delight in the recent hire contract.

"T his is exactly why we signed up to PlantMiner.  Their quoting tool is easy to use and shows exactly what information we need to provide when quoting jobs. This latest contract win is just evidence of our growing contact base through the platform."

Whittens further expects their Mount Pleasant Operation contract with G&S Engineering to provide an opportunity to work with the local community near Muswellbrook in the Hunter Valley, opening up employment and supply prospects to the Hunter Valley region.
