A new Inner City South State Secondary College in Dutton Park, Queensland is on track to welcoming its first Year 7 students in 2021 with the announcement of CIMIC Group company and CPB Contractor’s wholly-owned subsidiary Broad Construction as the preferred builder for the $130 million school development.

“The College will be the first high school built in Brisbane’s inner south in 60 years.

“I am sure the families in our local community will be as thrilled as I am to see the progress on site and I invite them to get involved as we count down the days to the doors opening,” Deputy Premier and South Brisbane MP Jackie Trad said.

According to Education Minister Grace Grace, this new Inner City school is an investment in local jobs as well as local children.

“It also helps support local employment, with more than 400 jobs expected to be generated here at the Inner City South State Secondary College through construction.

“Eventually, the school will be able to cater for up to 1,650 students in years 7 - 12,” Ms Grace said.

Foundation Principal Kirsten Ferdinands has also welcomed the announcement of a preferred builder for the project.

“Today is an exciting milestone for the new secondary college and I am looking forward to watching the site transform into an innovative and contemporary learning facility.

“It is full steam ahead towards 2021, when we get to welcome our first Year 7 students into the brand new, modern facilities to start their high school journey,” Ms Ferdinands said.

The new Inner City South Secondary College will feature facilities such as learning and creative hubs, a multipurpose hall. Administration and staff centre, canteen and health and wellbeing hub as well as a learning plaza, outdoor areas, an outdoor court, car park, pick-up and drop-off zone, and end of trip facilities.

Major construction is set to commence late this year and is due to be completed in 2021.

“Our building expertise draws from an extensive track record of projects. The capability and experience of Broad’s team provides certainty of safe, efficient delivery and value for our clients.

“We look forward to working closely with the Queensland Department of Education to deliver a world class teaching and learning environment for students, staff and wider school community,” CPB Contractors Managing Director Juan Santamaria said.
