Victoria’s Major Road Projects Authority has officially awarded an $86 million contract to Decmil Group to design and construct the Drysdale Bypass from Jetty Road to Whitcombes Road. This contract award follows an early works agreement signed in June of this year.
Decmil is currently undertaking early works for the $117 million project, and major construction on the Drysdale Bypass is set to commence this month.
The project scope will include the construction of a six-kilometre bypass road that will help improve safety as well as ease the congestion at the heart of Drysdale by providing an alternative and more efficient route for drivers and trucks on the Bellarine Peninsula.
This multi-million dollar project will also deliver a new six-kilometre shared user path together with a pedestrian and cycling underpass at Peninsula Drive. These will be providing locals with better connections to schools, sporting precincts and residential communities.
The State Government has estimated that the bypass will reduce traffic along the route by up to 40 per cent.
From a previous media statement, Member for Bellarine Lisa Neville said: “The Drysdale Bypass will provide major benefits for the Bellarine - delivering a vital link to schools, growing communities and boosting the local economy.”
The Drysdale Bypass is expected to be completed by mid-2020.
