EIS progresses for $600m Capricorn Integrated Resort in QLD

The Queensland Government has welcomed the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) progress from Iwasaki Sangyo Company for its proposed $600 million Capricorn Integrated Resort Development in Queensland, which is being facilitated by the State Government’s Coordinator-General.

“Work is underway on the EIS for this project and Mr Iwasaki advises the EIS work will be completed this year,” said Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk.

The Capricorn Resort redevelopment will include the following:

  • A five-star resort with 300 rooms as well as a golf course, caravan and recreational vehicle park
  • Refurbishment of the 331-room Capricorn Resort
  • A Wagyu cattle farm for farm stays, cattle and sheep farming as well as educational activities
  • An 8,000-dwelling residential community and village centre
  • A conservation precinct
  • An airstrip for tourism, chartered flights as well as a potential fly-in, fly-out hub

According to Member for Keppel Brittany Lauga, the Capricorn Resort has been an iconic destination for tourists and the local community is looking forward to its redevelopment.

“The EIS will be comprehensive plan to provide for a sustainable redevelopment of the resort and support thousands of jobs in our region,” Mrs Lauga said.

Iwasaki Sangyo estimates that the development will support about 19,000 jobs during construction – 8,500 on-site and 10,500 off-site over a 20-year period – as well as approximately 2,160 positions once the resort is operational.
