New $280m mixed-use innovation hub to rise in Parramatta NSW

Charter Hall, together with Western Sydney University (WSU) and University of NSW (UNSW), has announced the development of an $280 million innovation hub at 6 Hassall Street in Parramatta’s CBD.

Charter Hall’s Chief Executive David Harrison said that this partnership will result in providing students with an enriched learning environment.

“Western Sydney University have been visionary in their pursuit of creating new ways for students to learn, and in partnership with Charter Hall and UNSW are leading the education sector in partnering with industry to create long-term value for their students and the community,” Mr Harrison said.

The cost to build the innovation hub is going to be evenly divided between WSU and Charter Hall, which makes the WSU a co-owner of the establishment.

Once completed, the vertical campus is going to cater to architecture and engineering students. The high rise building will provide up to 27,000-SQM of lettable space and it will serve as an engineering hub and commercial office tower. This new campus will be home to WSU and UNSW’s joint undergraduate program as well as architecture and business courses.

According to WSU vice-chancellor Barney Glover, the engineering degree offered at this new institution will deliver world-class innovation and research to the region that will be able to provide critical support to the government’s goal to create up to 200,000 knowledge jobs in the west.

“Through this joint venture, Western Sydney University and UNSW will harness emerging technologies and opportunities at scale to deliver a highly progressive, industry-engaged engineering course in Australia’s fastest-growing region,” Mr Glover said.

Construction on the project is expected to commence in 2019 during the first quarter of 2019 and completed by 2021.
