RCR Mining Technology wins contract for works at WA Cloudbreak mine

RCR Mining Technology (RCRMT) - a wholly-owned subsidiary of NRW Holdings - has been awarded a new contract for a design and construct equipment package from Fortescue Metals Group (FMG) for the Cloudbreak iron ore mine in Western Australia.

This contract award will get RCRMT to deliver a new relocatable HOP9 crushing plant at the Cloudbreak mine site. This new crushing plant will join the four others that have been built. The new HOP9 crushing plant is designed for 3,500 tonnes an hour of primary sizing, which serves as an extension of the previous relocatable plant that operates at a rate of 2,500 tonnes per hour.

The new relocatable crushing plant will be fed by FMG’s autonomous truck fleet. It is also designed using RCRMT’s relocatable principles that was developed over a 15 year period.

According to RCRMT Executive General Manager Ian Gibbs, all of the company’s mining technologies equipment have been developed at its South West operations - at the Bunbury and Welshpool workshops. Mr Gibbs added that the company will be partnering with local subcontractors for specialist services for the delivery of this project.

“Our design and manufacturing teams are very proud to be part of these projects and our ongoing relationship with Fortescue,” Mr Gibbs said.

NRW CEO and Managing Director Jules Pemberton also commented: “I am delighted with today’s announcement of the HOP9 contract award for Fortescue Metals Group. RCRMT prides itself on its innovation driven solutions for its clients and I am excited by the part RCRMT will play in the broader NRW group’s future as we continue to grow and evolve our business model.”

Recently, FMG announced that it will make a move towards using renewable energy to power its Chichester Hub - including the Cloudbreak mine - in the Pilbara. You can read more about it here.
